Keri forest

Keri grove is located at an altitude of 300 meters, 9km west of Heraklion, near Voulismeno Aloni and south of the gorge Almyros. It can be accessed via a short road that starts about 300m after Voulismeno Aloni.

The grove consists of approximately 5 square kilometers and is a new forest of pine and some cypress trees in places. Keri has been reforested by the (former) Municipality of Tylissos to serve as a green lung for the dry and rocky area. The reforestation is widespread and successful, despite the problems caused by occasional fires in the forest.

Here you will find a shelter and benches, perfect for a Sunday outing. Moreover, many tracks lead to the secret places of the forest, which you can explore by bicycle. At the easternmost part of the forest, there is almost a vertical cliff. The views to the canyon Almyros, Heraklion city, Amoudara Bay and the springs of Almyros from there is magnificent.
