Geropotamos River (Mesaras)
River Geropotamos (Holy River) runs through the plain of Messara, 55km south of Iraklion. He exits on the beach inside the military airport of Tymbaki.
Geropotamos was once downloading a lot of water, but during the recent years it is almost always dry. Besides the general problem of drought that Messara faces, the main decrease in water is due to the Dam of Faneromeni, next to the village Vori.
