Church of Archangelos Michael of Aradena

The Church of Michael Archangelos in the currently uninhabited settlement of Aradena Sfakion, was built at the beginning of the 14th century in the place of the middle part of one of the two old christian basilicas which exist at the seat of the bishopric of \'\'Finiki that is Aradenis\'\'.

It is different from the rest of the cross-domed churches of Crete, as it does not follow the architectural trends of the School of Greece. The icons include standing saints and scenes from the gospels, the life of St Nicolaos, the legendary of the Archangels and the Second Coming. The wall paintings date from the first decades of the 14th century and can probably be attributed to the famous artist Michail Veneris.
