Deliana – Mesavlia Gorge

Mesavlia – Deliana Gorge is located 37km west of Chania. Starting from the village Mesavlia it descends to the village Deliana after 5km walking in the gorge is very easy (takes about one hour) and is suggested even for children, as it runs along a dirt road.

The gorge is characterized by the dense vegetation around its creek. The best season to visit the Gorge is on spring, when the vegetation is at each peak and the water flows in abundance.

Near Mesavlia you will meet the cavernous chapel of Agia Paraskevi, where a feast takes place each year. Moreover, it is noteworthy to mention that the locals have a funny dispute whether the gorge is called Deliana or Mesavlia, which is depicted even in the signs of the area.

The fastest was to access the gorge from Chania is from Deliana, while the fastest route from Paleochora is from Mesavlia. From Deliana you can walk (uphill) to Mesavlia and return, unless you have arranged with someone to pick you up from Mesavlia (1+1 hours).

In Deliana and in the neighboring village Panethimos, there are small taverns. Moroever, in the nearby village of Gra Kera you can visit the ruined monastery of Theotokos.
