Apolichnos Gorge (Mires)

Apolichnos Gorge is located a few kilometers north of Mires town, in a lush green area with dense olive groves. The 3km long gorge starts from Psiloritis south slopes, next to the village Panagia, and ends at the traditional village of Agios Antonios (Vreli). It’s actually a narrow valley running along a river, which in some places gets deeper and the vegetation is very dense.

It is easily accessible, especially at its exit, near Agios Antonios. The name is taken after the abandoned village of Apolychnos, located at an altitude of 220m, inside the gorge. The village is surrounded by lush trees and gurgling springs, while the square hosts the beautiful old church of Saint Panteleimon.
