MUNICIPALITY of MALEVIZI
Tourism is the first resource of its inhabitants due to the large number of hotels and tourism businesses. Apart from the widespread form of family marine tourism, the conference and exhibition tourism have known particular development, due to the existence of adequate infrastructure in the hotel complexes. However, along with tourism agriculture coexists with craft activities. Although the agricultural - livestock sector in recent years has continued to decline, it employs (seasonally or exclusively) a large part of the population. The City is developing into one of the main poles of residential urban complex of Heraklion (with which it is almost joined) for primary and secondary residence. As a fishing region it is considered among the most active fishing waters of Crete.
Tylisos Region
Local residents are engaged in agriculture and livestock farming and there is also agritourism accommodation available. The areas near Tylisos have undergone a relative growth due to the installation of, mainly, artisanal business. It has many natural beauties, canyons and nature paths, whereas the most well-known are that of Strouboula canyon and the forest of Keri. The ancient city of Tylisos is one of the most important archaeological sites of the area.
Krousonas Region
The site is located at the foot of Mt. Psiloretes. Vineyards and olive groves are the almost exclusive cultures of the region. In the plateau of Krousonas, also known as Livadi, at 1200 m. altitude, 300.000 pear and apple trees are cultivated. Even in the mountainous region sheep farming is flourishing.
