Moni Odigitrias Gonias

Gonia Monastery was built in the first half of the 17th century, a short distance north of the town Kolymbari. A short distance west, on a hill, saved the church and ruins of the cells of the original monastery.

The church was built and painted in the mid-14th century. In the early 17th century the monks Blaise Cyprios and Benedict Tzagarolas, after finding the miraculous image of the Virgin Mary, according to tradition and built a new monastery in its current position. Because of the steep slope built underground, vaulted spaces and created the level on which was built the main complex.

Also on display vestments, crosses blessing, one of the Cretan antiminsio patriarch of Alexandria Meletios Pigas. Particularly important is the library of the monastery with a large number of old books and some manuscripts of 17th - 19th century.
