Eleftherios Venizelos

Eleftherios Venizelos was a gifted personage who was born in Crete (August 23, 1864 – Martz 18, 1936, Paris) and lived in turbulent times.

He is considered one of the most important Cretans. His life and his work are still under research by the historians.

As a prime minister elected many times, he played a significant role in the autonomy of the Cretan state and later in the union of Crete with Greece, the liberation of Macedonia, the position of Greece I World war I and the modernization of the Greek society and state.
